Description

I've had an idea for a while now and wished to honor all of the major North American predators that was legal to obtain and have in posession in Michigan. I started practicing with scrap fox and coyote faces, slowly working my way up to my wolf face. I was a tad nervous but at the moment I'm rather happy with this. Turns out the taxidermy base below that I'm using to aid in its shaping wasn't quite the right size, but thankfully it will serve decently enough.

Now carding ears I had seen many a times, but never with paperclips like shown, mostly because I discovered I didn't have any and made them. Actually worked out well! The boxier part spreads over the fur whil the narrow part attatches to the card behind the ear so it all works out well.

The total headdress will consist of a coyote paw, black bear neck fur an dleg skins, lynx claws, a wolf face and body, fox claw, bone beads, and a bobcat claw. Cougar and badger claw choker. Wolverine parts are currently unavailable. Bird of prey parts will be ommitted for legal purposes. To honor the prey that support the predators and nature, moose, elk, and deer will be worked in as well. As a hunter myself I've wanted to honor such spirits that have nourished my family as well as inspired my dreams...

Please do not post rude, crude, or flaming comments about what is shown above. This animal has shown no signs of neglect but a healthy life to an older adult (muzzle is graying). All furs to be used in this have been legally obtained. I support the protection of endangered species but also accept that if there are too many of a certain species(such as wolves or deer) in an area that is causing damage and danger to the rest of the ecosysem, then culling and hunting is necessary to help nature balance and correct the wrongs that have occured. I don't support killing just to kill. I do hunt for food and use all that I can. I have studied many years upon the ecosystem and the predators/prey within them so please don't leave any lectures about "how cruel it is what I am doing" or "how could you do this?" as I am preserving the beauty of the animal so it can be enjoyed throughout many years past its natural life. All my furs are handled with respect and care and are used for artistic referencing and such only.

At first, I was like "Wow, that's really realistic looking...tooo realistic looking..." And then I read your comment and say it's kinda like a refurbishing project you're doing. Wonderful work, Sharpe. I've watched your videos on youtube. I'm very captivated by your talent to render such beautiful heads that are practical as well with the moving jaws. I was going to try my own hand at fursuiting. I'm in a craftsy-kind of mood. I alternate. As a Christian, I agree with what you have said, not so much about considering the animals as spirits, but my family hunts and I was taught to appreciate the animals. Even in the Bible God told us to use the animals for whatever we needed. Food, clothing, etc. God actually killed the animals that supplied the fur for Adam and Eve to wear after they were kicked out of the garden and ashamed of their nakedness. Some people don't understand that God himself gave us animals to be used respectfully. He has no problem with balancing the population. Man is suppsoed to take care of the planet to a certain extent. This is his responsibility that God gave him.

For some people in my family, meat is their life. They're so poor, hunting every deer season stocks up for the new year and into summer a ways if they have several kills. My grandparents house is rustically decorated with deer racks and taxidermy deer heads. We use all the meat we can and the remains are given to the dogs and that saves us money for when we cannot afford food for various reasons to feed the animals with. The meat will feed even wild animals where food is scarce for MONTHS after deer season! We sometimes keep the legs to make deer tracks. If you pull the tendons the ankle moves. It was always a fun thing to play with and study when I was kid. It still is today.

But, just so people know, regardless, the people back in the pioneer days, had to trap animals and kill them. It's nothing new, it's not horrible, it doesn't make you a monster. Today, no, it's not necessary to kill an animal and skin it unless you make a living off of it. People over react, I think, about that. In the end, animals will not be the majority of our worries. People are starving elsewhere or they're dying and going to hell and people are stuck on animals. Silly, if you ask me. Not everyone who shows up with a skin made an animal suffer to get it. Why animals in the first place? Why so much concern? Never did understand that myself.

Anywho, sorry about my blabbing, but wonderful work Sharpe and you handle accusations or questions so well and maturely, I admire that. Sometimes I get so excited about explaining myself, I scare people away, lol.
