a friend of mine was wondering about my paws for Shadow, so I thought I'd show her. Pardon the crappy pictures.

O.k... the tan claws are hand sculpted out of Super Sculpey (Wonderfully amazing stuff.) The blinding white is Crayola Modal Magic. This is the inside of my finger paw pads. They'll be covered with material later.

The black you're seeing is the whole thing painted black. No those are not olives.

The next step is attaching the to a base glove which I'll then cover with fur.

I have a question about the Crayola stuff:

How well does it stand up to wear and tear?
How long does it take to set up completely?
Do you like working with it?

I want to know, because I am trying to find a more cost effective material for my larger sculpts.

Um... With this stuff is hard to blend the "seams" in the clay. I had to blow dry this stuff for a little while & had it under a heat lamp to make it really hard. With out doing that, it would've taken more than 2 days. Not to mention it would've been weak. It's meant for simple throw away crafts.

Ah, I see....Maybe the expensive stuff is the worthwhile way to go. here's the link to where to buy it: [link] This supplier is really diverse. I order from them from time to time. Sculpey ultralite is really good for your needs as well.

Hmmm.. I'll have to look that up. Model Magic manages to chip the paint off real easy unless you coat it with something.

TWO WORDS BABE! Paperclay! My dragon head is purely made from that stuff. You can sand it and carve it, and it takes the paint and keeps it!

Why go paper clay when celluclay is just as fun!XD

Claws AND paw pads. (The white stuff is Crayola model magic. It makes great pads)

I say go right ahead. It gives the wearer extreme control over the claw. No wiggly claws!

You made the claws with Crayola model magic? I always get that from my great uncle! *head smack*

I sculpted the claw (tan) out of super sculpey and formed the crayola model magic (white) over it to form the pad.
